Diablo 3 Release Day

Today is finally the big day that millions of gamers have been waiting for. Diablo 3 is live to the world! This game has a massive following but how many of those people will stick around? The Diablo franchise has always been rich with lore and great stories but a huge part of this game has always been its pvp. There were entire servers dedicated to world pvp back in Diablo 2 and it became a large part of what kept that game going for so long. Diablo 3 will be a different story, there is no pvp as of yet.

Blizzard has removed any kind of world pvp from the game and said that at a later date they may add arenas. They've already shown what these arenas will be like and I have to say that they're not very impressive. Blizzard also said that they're not going to balance for pvp. They want this game to be a pve game. I see no problem with that and I'm glad they've given players the heads up but how will that effect the game in the long run?

In most games, a good pvp system is what gives the game it's longevity. This was certainly true of Diablo 2. How does Blizzard intend to keep this game going in the long run, and do they even care? The amount of pre-sales this game has had is mind numbing and more people will be buying it after release, so do they care about the life span after making such great sales? I think we'll find out, but will it be soon enough. People are already posting videos online of the end of the game. The game has been live for just over 12 hours in North America and people have already beaten it. Obviously you can go back through the harder difficulties and that is a big lure for most gamers, but what happens when that's done in a few more days? There is only so long that people will continue to do magic find runs.

The lack of a pvp system at launch could be a great thing as it gives blizzard time to polish the game even more and really put the time into developing the system. This could also be a disaster for the games longevity. Only time will tell. I don't think this game is bad in any way, in fact it's the opposite. I had an amazing time with the beta and I'm going to enjoy the full game even more. While we wait to see what Blizzard has in store for us in the future, millions of people will be having a great time slaying the minions of Diablo!

Let me know what you guys think about the game in the comments. Are you having a good time? Do you wish there was pvp? Have you beaten the game yet? Feel free to discuss it all here.
