Today the RMAC or Real Money Auction House went live on Diablo 3. People have begun to flood the market with overpriced items and other people are actually buying them. I have always been sceptical of adding this feature to a game like this but, while I still have concerns, my opinions have changed a bit. Let me share my thoughts with you on this.
When Diablo 3 was in beta I thought it was a terrible idea due to the fact that, I thought people would be excited to sell items but who would really want to buy them with cash when they can use gold? Well, there was a couple factors I didn't think about at the time. The first of which being farming.
In order for people to be able to buy items with gold, they have to get gold which means farming. They can farm items or just gold itself. There are a number of guides out there to help you farm gold but for some people this is too time consuming. Some people simply don't have the time or they want to instantly have the best gear possible so they go to the auction house and buy what ever they can. With the introduction of the RMAH, they don't even have to get gold anymore, just a paypal account. This brings me to the second reason the RMAH will be successful.
The second reason this will work is because of the gear itself. At this point in the game people know which gear is good and which is bad. The players who put in the time to farm the gear are going to want actual money for their efforts. What does that mean exactly? Well I think what you'll end up seeing is that all the best gear in the game will only be available on the RMAH at some point. When a player comes across an great item level 63 piece, they wont be selling it for gold. The top tier items are going to be sold for real money because there are people out there that will buy it.
I believe that the gold auction house will be used by characters that are leveling to buy and sell low level items. I think it will be rare if not impossible to find great gear on the gold auction house. At the moment the gold auction house is still going strong, however the RMAH has only been open for a few hours. Once the gold auctions expire on the high level gear, I'm sure they'll be moved to the other side and sold for cash.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think the RMAH is a good thing or do you think it will cause an imbalance in the game? Another factor to consider is pvp. When pvp is finally release do you think Diablo will become a pay to win game? Let me know in the comments section below how you feel about all of this.
Well, according to what your saying about the best gear only being available on RMAH, then the game is already pay to win. What upsets me is that they are currently nerfing the good gold farming areas, making it harder to save for AH for your act 2 inferno characters. I, for one, am not happy at all that I am going to be REQUIRED to use RMAH to beat a game I already paid 60 dollars for. Im sorry, but I feel that if I spend 60 dollars on the game, that the end game should be paid for as well. I think RMAH is going to backfire in a negative way on this game and hurt casual gamers to the point where they just stop playing all together. Which means less sales of expansion for D3
ReplyDeleteGreat feedback and I agree on most of it. This post however was only my opinion about the best gear ending up on the RMAH. We'll have to wait and see how things turn out and if blizzard does anything in the future to eliminate our concerns. Worst case scenario, some people buy all the best gear and honest hard working players like us will just grind it out. Thanks for the comment.
